Dr. Etti Baranoff is an Associate Professor of Insurance and Finance at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond VA. Prior to her academic career, she was a Texas insurance regulator for 12 years. Her career also includes experience with a life insurer, a Texas public risk pool and consulting.  A five-time winner of the Research Paper Award from the International Insurance Society, she has co-authored more than 50 papers relating to risk management and insurance. Her work is published in prominent journals, including The Journal of Risk and Insurance, The Journal of Banking and Finance, The Geneva Papers on Risk and Insurance,  and The Journal of Insurance Regulation, among others. She also authored and co-authored textbooks in risk management and insurance including  Risk Management for the Enterprise and Individuals.

Dr. Dalit Baranoff is a historian specializing in U.S. business history and the history of risk and insurance. Her dissertation, “Shaped by Risk: The American Fire Insurance Industry, 1790—1920,” won the Herman E. Krooss Prize for Best Dissertation in Business History. A graduate of the Johns Hopkins University, she has taught history at several colleges,  conducted research on a wide range of historical and contemporary topics, and worked in the private sector as a digital history editor. Currently she is a consultant, writer, freelance archival researcher, and a fellow at the Johns Hopkins Institute for Applied Economics, Global Health and the Study of Business Enterprise.
